U3A Family History

- guided research into your family history every 2nd and 4th Wednesday from September to April.

All classes at St Andrew’s Church, Church Hill Centre, Redditch - 2nd & 4th Wednesday 2-4pm

All must be U3A members or wiling to join - costs £10.50 to April 2017.

A payment of £2 for each class covers room hire & refreshments.

Intoduction to Family History using the Ancestry web resources &
Putting your learning into practice (Project 1)

The introduction to family history will include the following topics for new members whilst continuing members will have equivalent topics related to their personal research:

Introduction & documents

Births, Marriages & Deaths indexes & keeping paper records

3-generation trees

1911 Census & FH software

1939 Register

- topics introduced each session may vary according to needs of participants & all sessions will include opportunity for personal research, discussion of problems, &c

Project 1 - through the 20th century (for new members)

Continuing members will pursue personal research with support and requested topic presentation

Project 2 - social history of a 19th century family.

This second project repeats that completed by some students in previous years for whom an alternative (18th or 19th century) project will be offered. Topics will be added as group needs are assessed and new information comes available.
