Surnames

After a short summer break the Friday Quiz returns with a new style (for at least one week!). For once you are being told what the quiz is all about. Each question is simply a list of surnames and you simply have to identify where you would find those surnames. The names are taken from the 1881 census and are the top ten names in the town for being a name you would least likely find anywhere else in the country.

There are six towns, with the top ten distinctive names in each town. All are large towns of very roughly the same size, and all in England.

A prize goes to the first to get them all most nearly right – if you cannot get the town then try county or region! – and I will close the prize option the first time I check on Monday morning (7 October 2013).

To claim the prize e-mail your answer to fridayquiz@aponline.co.uk
